About us
Seed Lakeside Community Garden is an inclusive community space in Sale where people can come together to feel a sense of connection and belonging. The aim of this garden is to give individuals and community groups the opportunity to take part in activities that encourage friendship while also learning new skills and enjoying the many health and wellbeing benefits of being outdoors growing delicious, healthy vegetables.
In order for the Seed Garden to continue to benefit our community, we are wanting to create and grow community partnerships. We believe through community partnerships and involvement Seed will improve the community’s health and wellbeing while also growing tourism.
The Seed Garden is a not for profit project that depends on grants, donations, sponsorships and the hard work of dedicated volunteers. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and acknowledged on our social media pages and community assistance board (that will be on site). Any money that Seed generates will go directly back into the long term running of this community garden.
Why Seed Garden?
The primary driving force behind Seed is facilitating community connection. Why a garden to do this? Gardens have a particular uplifting and therapeutic effect on us – even in the freezing cold, a garden is a beautiful place. Being outdoors it is a less threatening space for many than an unfamiliar building. Seed’s gates are open 24/7 so it can act as a gathering place for friends, strangers, and community groups. ( If the gates are closed during the day, it’s because playgroup is on and we don’t want any little ones wandering off! You can still come in, just close the gates behind you )
As well as ad hoc gatherings, Seed runs regular events and activities – workshops, gardening groups, BBQs and pizza events (using the pizza oven at Seed), picnics, playgroups, and more.
We have plans to make the undercover area more usable, maybe adding a fridge and kettle so that people can have a cuppa when they meet as well as other expansion ideas.
We really don’t want Seed to be just for a few. Seed should be a place for everyone. You are most welcome to harvest food from the community beds, but also feel free to do some weeding or watering as well as using the garden as a safe place to hang out with friends, or make new ones.
We’d love to hear any suggestions you may have on how we can improve Seed. Please use our contact form here to let us know what you think.
